Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia — To show his love, a jealous teenager in the Russian city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur has beheaded a romantic rival and presented the head to his girlfriend.
Nikita Rasskazov, 16, a successful boxing and kickboxing competitor, has confessed to the crime. The victim, Artyom Shustov, 19, was a recent Jehovah’s Witnesses convert who, according to a friend,
“had no enemies. He was never into drugs or anything like that.”
Immediately before the murder Rasskazov accused Shustov of trying to rape Rasskazov’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Olena Matsneva. The girl had spent time with Shustov at a party and had posted a photo of them together on social media.
The girl’s friends have reported to local police that Olena Matsneva told Rasskazov she’d had oral sex with Shustov. She claimed Shustov had forced himself on her. However, the girl’s friends say she had initiated the love-making by kissing Shustov.
According to one friend,
“We were then in the apartment with them and personally saw what was happening.” The friend went on to say, “The next day, Olena obviously regretted what had happened, and she told her boyfriend Nikita. But she explained it as if Artyom had harassed her and tried to rape her. Nikita was shocked and asked Artyom to meet and talk.”
The two male teenagers met at a local park on the evening of October 27, 2016, to discuss the situation. At some time during the encounter, Shustov apparently claimed to Rasskazov that the girl had been “pestering him at the party,” and that “he was drunk and could not resist” her advances.
It is alleged that at this point Rasskazov pulled a kitchen knife from his backpack. Shustov fled but Rasskazov ran him down and stabbed Shustov twice. According to one source, the victim’s “fingers were covered with multiple cuts. Perhaps he was trying to protect himself with his hands or fighting the attacker, or both.”
According to the Siberian Times,
“With Shustov badly wounded but evidently still alive, Rasskazov started to cut off his head with the knife. He took the severed head by the hair, put it in a garbage bag, and then into a backpack. He dragged the body to another part of the park and put Artyom’s student papers on his chest.”
Upon returning home, Rasskazov hid his blood-soaked clothing in a cupboard, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next day, Rasskazov visited his girlfriend, told her about the murder, and showed her the head. According to police, he “wanted to bring the head to his beloved Olena to prove his love in this way.” Police have described the girlfriend as “distraught.” She has refused to comment on the gruesome slaying.
After displaying the head, Rasskazov put it back into his backpack, which he loaded with rocks and threw into a nearby river to hide it.
The body was found the morning after the killing. Rasskazov was detained by police and confessed.
A friend of the murderer has confirmed that his recent behavior had been bizarre:
“Nikita was spending a lot of time in online groups devoted to maniacs and often carried a knife with him.”
