Here are 5 Fast Facts about this fast rising pre-teen star:
1The Twelve-Year Old Actress Has Shot to Fame After Her Starring Role in Netflix’s Stranger Things
Stranger Things has been well-received by critics and fans alike, with great performances from the cast, the thrilling storyline, and plenty of 80s fueled nostalgia being just a few of the strong-points of the 9-part series.
Brown in particular has received rave reviews for her performance as Eleven or El, a mysterious girl with special powers and a troubled past who befriends a young group of friends who are searching for their missing friend.
Despite having few lines of dialogue, her performance has been lauded, with her ability to convey emotions through nothing but expressions and mannerisms. The lovable character of El has been cited as one of the standouts of the series, which was released in mid-July.
2The Actress Was Born in Spain to British Parents But Has Lived in the United States for Several Years
Brown was born in Barcelona, Spain to British parents, although her family has since moved to the United States, relocating to Florida in 2011. Her American accent has wowed audiences, and she is said to have perfected it by watching the Disney Channel.
She was also home-schooled due to her families constant traveling, which probably attributes her posh British accent!
3She Wasn’t Told She Had to Shave Her Head Until Her Final Audition for Stranger Things
As her role in the show is that of a telekinetic girl that was subject to various test from a shady government agency, the character of Eleven has shaved hair, but Brown wasn’t aware of this until the final audition — although she was more than willing to commit to the role.
And she had to convince her upset mother about to do so, saying in a recent interview,
“I was like ‘Mum, let’s just cut it off, it grows back, it’s not permanent and I need to show how much I’m involved with this character and how much I’m involved with the show.’ I wanted the best for the show and if that’s what I had to do, then that’s what I had to do!”
She has since release the footage of her getting her hair shaved for the role, which was recorded by her mom.
4A Girl of Many Talents, She Recently Showcased Her Rapping Skills on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
In a segment with her fellow co-stars from Stranger Things, Brown perfectly rapped Nicki Minaj’s verse from the Kanye West track Monster.
The fast, intricate rapping of Minaj was flawlessly recited by the 12-year-old, and the only word she missed out was intentional, avoiding the curse word from the line that reads “Pull up in the monster/automobile gangster/with a bad bitch that came from Sri Lanka”.
“I do Thai boxing Mondays, jiu-jitsu Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Wednesdays I do boxing with Mark, He was a world champion at one point. I absolutely love it. I actually have a punching bag right outside in my garden. I’m obsessed with working out. I eat like a pig so it kind of makes up for that.”
5Among Her Adoring Fans is Breaking Bad Actor Aaron Paul
Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul took to his Instagram account to applaud Stranger Things and the performance of Brown.
Paul had actually interviewed Brown for a feature in Elle Magazine known as celeb-to-celeb chat. Already a big fan by this point, Paul got to finally meet Brown, going on to speak of how great an experience it was. He said in an interview,
“I was terrified, She’s the best…But I was so terrified. She was on a family vacation Spain and I was like, ‘I’ve got to make this good’…She gets on the phone with her cute little accent…She’s far more articulate than I and I was terrified.”
“My wife and I said that we’d want to adopt her…she said that we could,” Paul said.
As if this wasn’t high enough praise, the Emmy Award winning actor took to social media to gush more about Brown.
“Had the absolute pleasure to interview the brilliant, articulate and absolutely adorable @milliebobby_brown the other day,” he wrote.
“She of course exceeded all of my expectations. If you have seen Stranger Things then you know how amazing this young lady is. If you haven’t seen the show you need to get on that as soon as possible. Millie, you’re the best…”
